Maximum Strength Get Your Strongest Body in 16 Weeks with the Ultimate Weight Training Program

An innovative approach to weightlifting, emphasizing increasing strength along with muscle size–from a renowned strength coach and nationally ranked powerlifter, and a veteran fitness journalist.

Most of the 23 million American men who lift weights do so to get bigger; unfortunately, many of them are going nowhere with watered-down bodybuilding routines that don’t help them actually get stronger. Eric Cressey’s cutting-edge four-phase program, featuring constant progression, variation, and inspiring goals, keeps you focused on increasing strength along with muscle mass, helping you achieve the fittest, most energetic, and best-looking body you’ve ever had–with fewer hours at the gym.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Soft-tissue and warm up alone makes this book worth it.
This book has an excellent section on how to properly do soft tissue work and to properly warm up. The 16 week program is brutal and definitely made me stronger and much more leaner. I feel like a new, stronger, and injure-proof man.

5 Stars Great Book
Maximum Strength is a great buy for those of us more interested in strength, health and condition rather than in having the bulky, puffy and cosmetic look of the bodybuilder. The author really gets down to basics and explains in a clear way why strength is more important (and healthier) than looks. He provides excellent pictures with detailed outlines of the exercises. Cressey give the reader advice on diet and aerobics and writes about suitable programs for your particular bodytype: endomorph, mesomorph and endomorph. I really enjoyed this book in all of its entierty. I recommend it to guys who like myself are over forty and who are tired of their training routine. The workouts in the book can be done in a fast and efficient way; you will make gains in strength and will develop solid muscle all under 50 minutes per session. Don’t waste your money on Muscle Magazines that cater to steroid-junky bodybuilders. The routines recommended in them are undoable by the average guy not on some muscle-enhancing drug. Buy Cressy’s book instead.

5 Stars Soft Tissue and Mobility Warm-up routines make it worth it alone
This is a great book for people interested in improving their strength (which should be everyone – man and woman). The author lays out why strength training is superior to the bodybuilding routines that most people (probably unknowingly) use in the gym. I think his actual 16-week program is more for the intermediate lifter who has experience with barbell free weight lifts such as squats and deadlifts, and has stopped making gains on their beginner program. (For beginners try Starting Strength by Rippetoe or stronglifts dot com)

I have been looking for a solid warm-up routine in print or online for years, and have finally found it (two to be exact). Cressey’s soft tissue work and mobility exercises will keep you healthy and mobile, and this routine is worth the cost of the book alone. Consider buying a quality foam roller when you purchase this book so that you can participate right away. He also offers excellent nutrition advice which is pulled from Precision Nutrition.

5 Stars the secret to gains is not getting injured
If youve read Testosterone.com blogs, or Elite FTS or know anything about powerlifting or strongman competitions, you know this guy. If you sign up to his blogs, you are already critiquing what your gyms personal trainers are peddling. I tried this program and among other things, my bench went from getting buried under 330 to blasting 375 in eight weeks. The workouts are not comfortable, but with proper form they are quick and effective. Take his advice, do the warm ups right (they are different and probably better than any others youve ever tried) Eat right, sleep right and use this book and get stronger. Ive been in gyms all around the country and they all at least have the equipment here…simple. jump right in, enjoy it and spread the word.

4 Stars Great book.
This is a great program. If you are a strength and conditioning coach or personal trainer (me) you should add this to your library. Cressey has done a great job at synthesizing the latest research about periodazation in relation to strength development. No surprise since he studied under Kraemer. I am going to give this program a shot. Thanks!
